The association and its educational project
La Associació Guardians de l’Amazònia is a non-profit association based in Begues (Barcelona), registered in the Register of Associations of the Generalitat de Catalunya under number 58971. It works with Indigenous peoples of the Amazon and with schools, organisations and individuals in Catalonia and beyond.
La Escola Intercultural Amazònia (EiAmazonia) is its educational project: the space from which we coordinate, develop and share our programmes, among them the Red de Escuelas Guardianas de la Amazonia.
These are the aims and activities set out in our statutes.
Our goals

Preserving the cultures of Indigenous peoples
To promote the preservation and safeguarding of the culture, traditions, languages and traditional knowledge of Indigenous peoples, protecting their cultural, linguistic and genetic heritage and sociobiodiversity, especially in the Amazon basin, but also in other areas of great ecological value and wherever there are communities with whom we share goals.

Passing heritage on to new generations
To help conserve and pass on cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible —rooted in oral tradition, cultural exchange and the relationship with nature— and to promote its continuity among new generations.

Cooperation between the global North and South
To foster international cooperation and intercultural exchange through partnerships between the global North and South, in order to share knowledge and carry out projects on intercultural education, human, land and digital rights, holistic health, income generation, care for the environment and culture, working together with local communities and Indigenous peoples.

Rights of Indigenous peoples
To promote respect for human rights and for the rights of Indigenous peoples, as well as for their autonomy, their cultural identity and their ways of life.

Education for global citizenship
To promote education for global citizenship, environmental awareness and intercultural dialogue, encouraging understanding between different places and cultures.

Gender equality
To promote gender equality and access to technology and economic resources, valuing and recognising the role of women in vulnerable situations in the communities we work with, and supporting their political participation and their institutional and community development.

Environment and climate
To contribute to protecting the environment, conserving biodiversity and tackling climate change, promoting sustainable forms of housing, employment and economic activity, in a respectful and balanced relationship with the land.

Sustainable economy
To promote a sustainable economy that improves the quality of life of communities, valuing and respecting their cultural traditions and their natural resources.

To drive educational and intercultural projects, both locally and internationally.
How we do it
To achieve these aims, the association:
Educational and cooperation programmes
Runs educational programmes, international cooperation projects, awareness campaigns and training activities.
Materials, music, books and documentaries
Produces and shares teaching materials, music, books, exhibitions, documentaries, plays, games and distance-learning platforms. See some examples.
Cultural activities and gatherings
Organises cultural activities, talks, workshops, events and spaces for exchange.
Responsible digital technology
Promotes initiatives that include the responsible and ethical use of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, for cultural preservation and community development.
Partnerships
Builds partnerships and collaborations with local, national and international organisations.
Cooperation networks between places
Promotes and coordinates joint initiatives with communities, institutions and a range of organisations, acting as an agent of change and as a bridge between places and actors in the global North and South, and fostering networks of educational and intercultural cooperation.
Our own platforms: EiAmazonia
Develops its projects through its own platforms, such as the Escola Intercultural Amazònia, an educational space for cooperation and intercultural exchange from which the organisation's programmes are coordinated and shared, among them the Red de Escuelas Guardianas de la Amazonia.
And any other activity related to these aims.
Our commitments
- Not for profitNone of our activities is run for profit.
- Everything goes to the projectsAll income —membership fees, agreements, grants, services or economic activities— goes entirely to our aims.
- Resources with a single purposeEconomic activities and the management of public or private grants serve only to sustain and develop our projects.
- A structure that keeps things goingPart of our resources goes to sustaining the association's structure —coordination, team, administration and equipment—, which is essential for projects to continue. This also serves our aims.
- Continuous improvementWe monitor and evaluate our projects and activities in order to improve them. In addition, funded projects are accounted for and audited by the body awarding the grant in each case —such as the Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament or the town councils that support us—, following their monitoring and accountability requirements.
Where we work
Mainly in Catalonia, the rest of Spain y Europe —an area where we want to expand our work—, and in the Amazon basin (Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana), and also in other parts of South and Central America and anywhere in the world where there are Indigenous peoples or communities with whom we develop cooperation, intercultural education or community action projects.
