The school with the most years in the AGSNSince the 2017-2018 school year
The Escola Guillem de Claramunt, in La Secuita (Tarragonès), is the school with the most years in the AGSN. Its link with the network began in the 2017-2018 school year, and since 2019-2020 Year 4 pupils have worked on the «Guardians de l’Amazònia» (Guardians of the Amazon) project every year.
The teaching staff have built it into the learning situation «Per què som Escola Verda?» (Why are we a Green School?): the work on the environmental impact of everyday decisions joins the twinning with the Puyanawa community, a space for co-creation between the two communities.
Over these years the pupils have written letters to the Escola Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa, raised money for its computers and welcomed Puwê Puyanawa and his daughter Txuku Kaytxi to the school. Year 4 pupils gathered this whole story in the timeline that follows.

It was made by Year 4 pupils in the 2022-2023 school year, gathering all the project’s activities up to that point.
- May 2018
First contact with the AGSN
On 16 May, a teacher from the school attended a talk on the Amazon and climate change at the Institut Martí i Franquès in Tarragona, as part of the school libraries project run by the CRP of the Tarragonès.
- November 2018
The story reaches the classrooms
On 27 November, Adolf Sanz and Alex Gimeno told «Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya» at the school. Each class wrote letters to twin with the children of the Puyanawa school.
- May 2019
First meeting with Puwê and Vari
On 27 May, at La Mora beach (Tarragona), the pupils met Puwê and Vari Puyanawa, with Adolf Sanz and Alex Gimeno, together with the schools La Canaleta (Vila-seca), La Vitxeta (Reus) and Consol Ferré (Amposta). Letters were exchanged and the school received bracelets and necklaces made by the Puyanawa children: one stayed in each classroom.

The project, every year with Year 4
A teacher from the school presented the experience at a conference in La Floresta (Barcelona). The school decided to run the «Guardians de l’Amazònia» project every year with Year 4.

Online work during lockdown
During lockdown, the work on the Amazon continued by video call. Year 4 pupils wrote, voluntarily, letters to the children of the Puyanawa school.

A charity stall
Year 4 pupils set up a stall with the crafts they had made —necklaces, bookmarks— to raise money. What they raised went towards computers for the Escola Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa.

The AGSN plaque
Adolf Sanz presented the school with the plaque that accredits it as a member of the AGSN. The councillor for Agriculture and the Environment attended.

- May 2023
Puwê and Txuku visit the school
On 10 May, Puwê Puyanawa and his daughter Txuku Kaytxi visited the school with Adolf Sanz. The councillor for the Environment attended. Year 5 pupils welcomed them in the gym by playing a song on the recorder; they then answered the questions each class had prepared, and the day ended in the infants’ playground with a ritual to call the rain, much awaited that spring.

Learning situation «Per què som Escola Verda?» (Why are we a Green School?)
The teaching staff build the «Escola Guardiana de l’Amazònia» (Amazon Guardian School) project into this Year 4 learning situation, with the subject areas of Catalan, Spanish and Knowledge of the Environment. The two strands share a deep, contextualised and experiential learning about the environmental impact of everyday decisions: resources, waste and living alongside the environment.
- Challenge: to learn about the school’s role in the AGSN and to tell the Puyanawa school what the pupils do to protect the environment.
- Starting point: what was learned about climate change in the previous learning situation, now carried into written texts.
- Activities: videos on climate change and deforestation, a concept map, listening to the story «L’Eruga de colors» (The colourful caterpillar), the Amazon and the Amazon river on Google Maps, rubber extraction and its products, and TV3’s InfoK report on Puwê and Vari’s visit to the Escola La Canaleta.
- Pupils’ texts: an expository text about the Puyanawa people and a group letter to the Puyanawa people with their views and the actions they take to protect nature.
- Competences: oral and written comprehension and expression in Catalan and Spanish, searching for information online, working in pairs and in groups of three and entrepreneurial competence: their own ideas to answer the challenge.
