THE GUARDIANS OF BIODIVERSITY

Today the Amazon region is considered the most biodiverse place in the world, which gives it a unique and invaluable status as a primary source of biological life and as a vital ecosystem, not only for the surrounding areas but for the whole world. However, just as the Amazon stands out for its natural greatness among those who clearly understand its irreplaceable value, there are also those who seek to profit from the Amazon at any cost, regardless of the consequences for the future.

Peoples such as the Puyanawa, Ashaninka, Huni Kuin, Yaminawá, Katukina, Pano and Nukini are born, ancestral defenders of their environment, their space and their home; their efforts to protect, conserve and preserve it have prevented many harmful actions against the Amazon’s diverse fauna and flora. The ecosystem of the Amazon region as a whole spans countries such as Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela and covers approximately 5% of the world’s land area; there is no doubt that any damage to the Amazon would have direct consequences for the entire planet. It is estimated that deforestation and the illegal exploitation of the Amazon’s resources have contributed 1 °C to the Earth’s current temperature, as a key driver of climate change and global warming.

The work that Guardians de l’Amazònia is carrying out has a great deal to do with recovering the cultural and historical values of these peoples but also, of course, with protecting life and biodiversity in all its dimensions. Guardians de l’Amazònia is a firm defender of nature and of all the benefits it brings to the world.
