School 12 of the Amazon Guardian Schools Network
A whole school year on the AmazonBarcelona, 2026-2027
Escola Heura, in Barcelona, joins the Amazon Guardian Schools Network (the AGSN) in October 2026, with its Year 2 pupils.
It is the first school in Barcelona to join the Network. In the city there had only been one one-off activity, in 2018, with the nursery pupils of Col·legi Montserrat, in Vallvidrera.
It arrives with the project already under way. Its Year 2 spends the whole year on the Amazon: what it is, where it is, the map and the wildlife. They wanted to carry on with history and Indigenous peoples, and that is where the two sides met.
This school works through projects, maths included. So the Network does not bring a separate programme: it fits inside the project they already have and adds materials, the link with the schools in the Amazon, and support.

What we will do together
What we agreed at the first meeting, in October 2026.
- Join their project without changing it — the school carries on with its own work and we add materials, contacts and support, at the pace they ask for.
- The exchange with a school in the Amazon — at this age letters, drawings and video work better than a video call. We carry them there and bring the reply back.
- A couple of workshops at the school — with crafts and the feather headdress, made for Year 2: fun and, at the same time, something to learn.
- A page of their own for the class — with the year’s diary, the videos and the games, to work on with the pupils.
- History and peoples — the part they asked for: who lives in the rainforest, what happened to them and how they live today.
- No cost to the school — we look for the funding ourselves.
At the end of the year, the school receives its guardian school plaque.
