Cultural exchange — Escola El Palau · Ixubãy School

• Escola El Palau (Molins de Rei) — 25 year 3 students
• Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa School — 10 students

Visit by Adolf Sanz, as part of the cultural exchange of the Ixubãy 2.0 project funded by the town councils of Molins de Rei and Begues, to the year 3 group at the Escola El Palau (teacher: Maribel). The session included handing over letters written by Puyanawa students and a copy of the storybook Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya for each student, as part of an exchange between the two schools. The session also included a traditional Puyanawa dance with the group.

These actions took place within work already done in the classroom, where the students had carried out a cross-curricular project on the Amazon, which made the content easier to grasp and encouraged active participation. The activity sits within work on values such as interculturality, socio-environmental awareness and recognition of and respect for cultural diversity.

The copies of the book were given by Associació Guardians de l’Amazònia, not by an individual.

Awareness workshop

• Escola El Palau (Molins de Rei) — 25 year 4 students

Visit by Adolf Sanz, as part of the cultural exchange of the Ixubãy 2.0 project funded by the town councils of Molins de Rei and Begues, to the year 4 group at the Escola El Palau (teacher: Marta).

The session consisted of an awareness workshop and a presentation of the project, as well as sharing a traditional Puyanawa dance with the group. It took place within classroom work on interculturality and socio-environmental awareness, encouraging active participation and a respectful approach to Puyanawa culture.

The activity sits within work on values such as interculturality, awareness and recognition of cultural diversity.

Workshop preparing the video call intercultural

• Escola El Palau (Molins de Rei) — 25 year 4 students

On 12 December 2025 a preparation workshop was held at the Escola El Palau with 25 year 4 students, to get ready for the intercultural video call with the Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa School three days later. The session, led by Adolf Sanz and Queralt Solsona Rosell, combined awareness raising and learning about the Puyanawa people, covering their way of life, their relationship with nature and the value of their cultural heritage.

A highlight of the workshop was Queralt Solsona's first-hand account: she shared her journey from Barcelona to the Amazon and her volunteering in the Puyanawa community, as well as her participation around COP30 accompanying a MATPHA Indigenous delegation. Her story helped students connect with the global dimension of socio-environmental challenges and understand the active role of Indigenous peoples.

The activity generated a high level of interest, motivation and emotional connection among the students, encouraging an open and respectful attitude towards the exchange. The workshop ended with a raffle of several copies of the storybook Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya, which boosted the students' involvement.

First video call with the Ixubãy Puyanawa School

• Escola El Palau (Molins de Rei) — 25 year 4 students
• Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa School — 10 year 4 students

The video call between the Escola El Palau (Molins de Rei) and the Ixubãy Rabuī Puyanawa School (Acre, Brazil) was prepared beforehand in class with a script adapted to the students' age. This preparation, led by the teachers, was part of classroom work aimed at fostering interculturality, socio-environmental awareness and respect for cultural diversity.

Through this process, the students were able to locate both schools on the map, reflect on what they knew and come up with questions about daily life in the other community, beginning an exercise in looking at a different reality with openness and curiosity.

During the session, the students introduced themselves, asked each other questions and shared parts of their daily lives, such as food, games, their surroundings or animals. It took place in a warm, participatory atmosphere that encouraged mutual understanding and valued both the differences and what they have in common.

This exchange helped reinforce values of empathy, respect and recognition of others. At the same time, the video call also strengthened the students' own cultural context, since they too shared parts of their reality and identity, contributing to their own process of cultural recognition and expression.

After the session there was a short reflection in class on what they had learned, what had struck them most and possible ideas for future exchanges. Overall, the activity gave continuity to the work done in class, consolidating a learning space based on interculturality, awareness and stronger cultural ties.

Awareness workshop

• Escola Sant Cristòfor (Begues) — 50 year 5 students

Visit by Adolf Sanz and an Amazon Guardians workshop at the Escola Sant Cristòfor in Begues, for the year 4 A and B groups (teachers: Núria and Marisol).

The session consisted of an awareness workshop and a presentation of the Amazon Guardian Schools Network project, together with a traditional Puyanawa dance, offering a hands-on approach to Amazonian culture and its Indigenous peoples.

The session formed part of the work being done in class, making it easier for students to take part actively and understand content related to the Amazon.

After the workshop on 21 April, the year 5 A class took a particular interest in the project. In that context, and within the CuEme programme (Entrepreneurial Culture at School), which involves setting up and running a school cooperative, the group decided together to support the Amazon Guardian Schools Network project.

This took shape as a solidarity action linked to their cooperative, bringing together what they had learned with values such as solidarity, responsibility and social commitment.

Fundraising within year 5 A's CuEme project

• Escola Sant Cristòfor (Begues) — 25 students from year 5 A

On 6 June, at a stall on the Rambla de Begues and with the support of the town council, the students sold books Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya, to raise funds for the Amazon Guardian Schools Network Ixubãy 2.0 project.

• Escola Sant Cristòfor (Begues) — 25 students from year 5 A

As a result, the group decided to donate €419 to the Ixubãy project. On 17 June 2025, during the presentation of school projects at the Teatre Goula, organised by Begues town council and the Escola Sant Cristòfor, the year 5 A students symbolically handed over the cheque.

The event was attended by the mayor of Begues and the councillors for Culture and Education, as well as the school's management team, teachers and the families of the upper primary years.

Podcast-making workshop

• Escola Castanyer (Sant Joan les Fonts) — 20 year 4 students

Marta Molina, of Espurna Comunicació, together with Guardians de l’Amazònia, ran a radio and podcast workshop at the Escola Castanyer in Sant Joan les Fonts for years 4, 5 and 6 and for their class teachers. The workshop led to the creation of Ràdio Castanyer (online) and the release of the school's first radio magazine.

The year 4 students worked on the storybook Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya. In the first part of the workshop, reading aloud, we went deeper into the Puyanawa people, their history and their legacy.

Then the students worked in groups of four to adapt the story for radio and write their own script. Once each part was written, we recorded it in class with the podcasting tools.

Finally, we looked for sounds, sound effects and music on free music platforms to set the scene for the school magazine section.

Now they are really looking forward to meeting the Puyanawa family on one of their visits to Catalonia.

Eutopías podcast — Sharing the Guardians project

Adolf Sanz took part in the Eutopías podcast, where he talked about his work in the Amazon Guardians project and about the Puyanawa storybook Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya.

In this conversation he went deeper into the history of the Puyanawa people and how the storybook reflects it, linking historical and present-day events. It helped spread the message of resilience and the worth of the Puyanawa people, and continued the awareness and environmental education work that defines the project.

Ràdio 90 — Pau Brasil programme

Adolf Sanz took part in Ràdio 90's Pau Brasil programme, where he explained how the Amazon Guardians project began and told the Puyanawa story Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya.

That story was taken to the Escola Castanyer in Sant Joan les Fonts, where year 4 students recorded a podcast version that would soon be broadcast on Ràdio Castanyer. The activity is part of the cultural and educational networking of the Eutopías team, which seeks to connect communities and share knowledge across different media.

Storytelling — A Puyanawa story and the colourful caterpillar

El Molí library (Molins de Rei) and Guardians de l’Amazònia

Activity organised by the Community Action department of Molins de Rei town council, the El Molí library and Guardians de l’Amazònia, as part of the Month of Cooperation, led by Eva Folgado and Adolf Sanz. It was held on Friday 4 April 2025, from 5.30 to 6.30 pm, in the library's hall (see it in the Molins de Rei listings).

The activity consisted of telling the story Els Puyanawa i l’Eruga de colors – Hêda Cêkaya, a story inspired by the Puyanawa people that brings children closer, in an accessible way, to elements of the Amazonian Indigenous worldview and their relationship with nature.

The session took place in a warm, participatory atmosphere that made it easy for children and their families to take part. The story introduced values linked to respect for nature, cultural diversity and socio-environmental awareness. An activity for families with children aged 3 and over.
